TOGO Chui, the founder of Jigen-ryu, has mastered the Taisha-ryu and the Tenshinshojiken-ryu. He then integrated the methods of these two schools to found Jigen-ryu. This technique is characterized by an extremely powerful first blow (shodachi).

When you master this technique, you can defeat an enemy just with one blow (it is not necessary to attack a second time). An attack also becomes a defensive movement; this technique was very popular at the end of the TOKUGAWA Shogunat (Bakumatsu) and people used to say, "Avoid the first shot if it's a Jigen-ryu attack." Today, the Togo family teaches this technique.
