Mokugyo is an instrument of the Zen Buddhist, the SOTO schools, Rinzai. This is a wooden Buddhist temple drum on a cushion to be hit with a stick. It sometimes has the shape of a fish. Today, we find cheap Mokugyo made in China but our Mokugyo are made in Japan in the region of Nagoya.
The kyosaku is a wooden stick that is used ZAZEN (meditation) ZEN by SOTO SHU and RINZAI SHU Buddhist ZEN in Japan.
