Massaki Hatsumi was born in Chiba. During his childhood, he practiced karate, judo, boxing, Kobudo, Jukenjutsu, etc. At the age of 26, he became a pupil of Takashi Takamatsu, an accomplished budoka, with whom he would train for years. On the death of his master in 1972, Masaaki Hatsumi inherited his legacyand  became the 34th Soke of Togakure Ryu and 9 other schools of Ninjutsu.
