The design depicts an octagonal tray adorned with weeping cherry blossoms and arabesque motifs, executed in the *maki-e* (gold lacquer) style. The pattern faithfully reproduces the look of traditional *maki-e* through the precise balancing of color shades and the amount of gold pigment used. (An excess of gold would make the fabric stiff; the composition is therefore carefully adjusted to maintain a pleasant texture and ensure ease of tying.)
